Time to dress up!

The joy of working with layers is that you can produce quick changes ... It's so easy to replace parts of the illustration which are not working.  Even if I used real paints instead of digital technology, I'd still want to work in layers.  Working commercially, chances are that there are going to be lots of changes before the final artwork is ready.

Here are two characters for you to play with layers.  The wardrobe is going to get bigger and bigger each week.  Have fun playing dressing up!

Break out the tinsel!

This has to be one of my favourite collaborations this year and here are the first Christmas cards that I've illustrated...

The shoe tree was a lot of fun to illustrate since it gave me a chance to include all the latest shoe fashion trends, from Jimmy to Manolo... Twenty different styles of shoe!  This card has become one of the most popular in the whole holiday collection from J. Falkner, and just this week was singled out as the chicest holiday card by People Stylewatch.  I'm very happy indeed!

This is not lying down . . .

By the time this post has been published, I will have already completed my Hot Bikram Yoga 30 day challenge. Bikram Yoga is a repetition of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in a room heated to 105°F (≈ 40.6°C) with a humidity of 40% for 90 minutes. I've been practising Yoga for a couple of years now and this was a challenge indeed. Every day has been a surprise of expectation and delivery. There were days I felt fantastic and I collapsed later on in class, and others when I was doubtful and it went brilliantly. I confess: I've never really understood healthy outgoing people. I'm not a sporty person. Don't get me wrong…I have tried. I'm just simply not good at it. But today I'm here, with a grin on my face, happy to share with you that my posture has changed, that I'm walking taller and that I'm feeling healthier.

Why am I sharing this? Well…Sometimes creatives and especially illustrators live a funny kind of life:  the busier you are, the less you move. Unless you share a studio with others you'll have to learn to spend time on your own. If something is not working as you wish, chances are that those thoughts will stay with you longer. I used to find it difficult to deal with several different projects in the same week. Unless you press send, if the job is still sitting on your desk while working on something else, it could be challenging to move on…  I can't say that I have a stressful life because working on what I like to do is a privilege, but the last 30 days have helped me to reset not only my mind but my body. Those last two minutes in savasana, where my body integrates and assimilates what I've just done, have helped me to not get distracted or agitated by the uncertainty of creativity. Let it go totally and start again when necessary. Two wonderful minutes of "nada".

Flowers & girls . . .

A few days ago while tidying up the studio I found this picture.  It's five years old and I did it for the opening of my old website.  Later on, it was in an exhibition for Images 33 organised by the Association of Illustrators.  I've retouched it a little for the blog…I added a few more lights in the background and some eye make-up to give a touch of attitude. Why not?

Fashion cards in their Palm Beach colors!

I've created these exclusive cards with J. Falkner, a fine stationery company based in Palm Beach, Florida. The Palm Beach colors are a bright, preppy pink and green combination, so J. Swide Magazine by Dolce & Gabbana . . .

Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2012 menswear

Swide is a magazine that describes the Dolce & Gabbana universe through digital communication and I was recently interviewed by Marcus kan:

M: Hi Adrian, I am so excited to have you on Swide this week as I have been wanting to feature you ever since I have seen your works! Can you tell me what's the main reason why you wanted to become a fashion illustrator?
A: I studied graphic design because a career as an illustrator wasn't an option at that time in Argentina. On my last year at University I travelled around Europe and I saw so many inspiring illustrations in magazines and adverts that I wanted to give it a go. I went back to Mendoza where I’m from and I drew non-stop for a month at a friend's studio. Then I printed the illustrations and put them in a folder, came back to London and started knocking at the doors of the people I wanted to work with…

Hope you like it.

Women in Crisis 1: Beyonce in Why don't you love me?

The most liberating advice that I have ever received, was that people don't have to love me. But once in a while we have to confront this question. This illustration is for everyone who has been or is suffering because of love.

Inspired by "Why Don't You Love Me"- Beyoncé Knowles. ‘4’ The brand new album from Beyonce is out now.

Drawn this way!

CFDA Award Ceremony

Last week, V magazine announced the second instalment of their “Lady Gaga - Drawn This Way” contest. Now the contest is over and they’ve settled on a few finalists. And guess what? I'm one of them!!! My fingers are so crossed that I'm almost cutting my circulation!  If this were an election I'd be on top of a van kissing babies. And asking people to vote for me.

V72 THE TRANSFORMATION ISSUE, on stands July 7th, to find out!

Dita Inspired by Twitter . . .

I have recently joined Twitter.  I was kind of lost, but with a little help from my friends I think I'm doing all right. If you are in Twitter and you like what I do, come and join me! The more the merrier.

This illustration was inspired by  Dita Von Teese twitter page, Snow White, and D&G Collection.
